In each person’s life there are many things that they can thank God for. Thanksgiving should not be a holiday only once a year that we celebrate. It should be year in and year out. When satan was in heaven, he decided that he would not appreciate all that God had done for him. He wanted the angels to praise him instead of praising God. Because of this, he was cast out of heaven with one third of the angels. He came to the earth and tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. Eve was not thankful for all the other trees in the garden. She wanted the fruit from the forbidden tree. The nature of Adam and Eve was changed in the day they ate of the fruit. The unthankfulness that was in satan was transmitted into the spirits of mankind.
We see children, as they start growing up, so unthankful for all that their moms and dads do for them. That is the nature of satan manifesting through them. Thankfulness is not a part of the human nature we are born with. Thankfulness and gratitude has to be taught. It is our job, as parents, to teach our children to be thankful. When a person gets born again, the nature of God comes inside of them. God’s spirit inside them means they no longer have to have an attitude of unthankfulness. They now can appreciate all that God has done for them.
God says in Ephesians 5:20,
“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
We see in this verse God’s desire for us to live thankful lives.
In I Thessalonians 5:18 we read,
“In every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
This is a command from God. There are so many things that God has done in our lives that are positive. Satan wants us to magnify the negatives instead praising God for the positives. Unhappiness comes from this type of lifestyle. The Bible says in Isaiah to put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Praise and thanksgiving work hand in hand.
Psalms 100:4 says,
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
In this verse we see very clearly that when we are in the presence of God, we will have an attitude of praise and thanksgiving. Living a life of thanksgiving is like living in heaven. Even though you are still on the earth, your mind will be thinking like heaven.
Today, make a choice decision that the days of unthankfulness are over in your life. Sit down daily and count all the good things God has given you, and then thank Him for them. Speak them out loud so your ears will hear. You will sense almost immediately a lifting in your soul.
